Description
Diabetes is a complicated disease that affects millions of Americans. The most significant complication that stands out as having dramatic life changing consequences which affects overall health, mobility, mental state and general purposeful life is that of lower limb amputation. In this course you will learn terms of the trade, post surgical management of the patient with lower limb amputation, the different types of trans-femoral and trans-tibial surgical procedures and how it affects rehab, prosthetic design, proper fit, range of motion and muscle control during gait before and after amputation with prosthesis (on both the sound and amputated side), requirements for alignment of the prosthesis, trans-femoral and trans-tibial prosthetic gait analysis, and cause and treatment of typical skin issues that may occur. This is an essential and beneficial course for any physical therapist or assistant working with trans-femoral or trans-tibial amputees. Written by a Physical Therapist who is also a Prosthetist, he has the unique insight and knowledge of both fields.
